“OVO developed a visual language that was fresh, but sincere, attending to McCain’s unique place in American politics.”
John McCain
Following his defeat in the 2008 Presidential Election to Barack Obama, John McCain sought to revitalize his image, dispelling the claim that he was “too old” and “irrelevant” for further impact in politics. In preparation for the pending Senate race, OVO was contracted to help direct this brand revitalization. In the following months, OVO developed a visual language that was fresh, but sincere, attending to McCain’s unique place in American politics. The crux of the issue was to dispel untruths, drawing attention to overshadowed elements of Senator McCain’s history and personal makeup and to further the conversation, so to speak.
The resulting “McCain Flag” icon represents a distinctive take on the classic stars and stripes iconography, while the rich, traditional color pairing tempers the modern symbol. The visual language is further articulated through the brand implementation and content presentation of the website and collateral.
Note: Senator McCain's website was art directed and designed by OVO with strategy, additional design and development by our friends at Forty.
