Following his defeat in the 2008 Presidential Election to Barack Obama, John McCain sought to revitalize his brand, dispelling the claim that he was “too old” and “irrelevant” for further impact in politics. In preparation for the pending Senate race, OVO was contracted to help direct his brand revitalization.
In the following months, OVO developed a visual language that was fresh, but sincere, attending to McCain’s unique place in American politics. The resulting “McCain Flag” icon represents a distinctive take on the classic stars and stripes iconography, while the rich, traditional color pairing tempers the modern symbol. The visual language is further articulated through the brand implementation and content presentation of the website and collateral.
Note: John McCain’s website (no longer live), was art directed and designed by OVO; with strategy, additional design and development by Forty Agency.
