City of Grace

City of Grace is a multi-site, 8,000+ member church in Arizona. Characterized (and criticized) for its cross-cultural approach to Christian spirituality, it was important to develop an identity for City of Grace which rooted them firmly in the traditions of the Christian faith, while simultaneously communicating their progressive and inclusive values. The resulting symbol is shaped from an “Escher-like” cross (communicating eternal, historical beliefs) woven around a circle (evoking wholeness and inclusion). Paired with a modern, humanistic sans-serif typeface and an earthen color palette, the identity reinforces core values, communicates to key stakeholders, and attempts to reach out to critics.
